BLM Full Release:
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will be conducting a prescribed burn over the weekend from June 8th - June 11th. Encompassing about 2,000-acres, the area to be burned is approx. 10 miles northeast of Black Canyon City, on BLM public lands within the Agua Fria National Monument. The purpose of the burn is to reduce hazardous build-up of vegetative fuels, & to improve wildlife habitat by increasing forage for wildlife. BLM fire personnel will ignite the fire both from the ground & by helicopter when weather & vegetation conditions allow for safe burning & to meet resource objectives.
Nearby residents & travelers along I-17 may see some light smoke during the burn operation. After ignition, the area is expected to burn down quickly, but it may smolder for a few days. Smoke should disperse out of the area in a short period of time. Fire crews will continue to monitor conditions following all prescribed burn activities. The BLM greatly appreciates your cooperation in protecting your public lands by helping to prevent unwanted wildfires. To report a wildfire call (800) 309-7081.
