Saturday Centennial Activities
Downtown Globe will have a grand mixture of activities, from the Copper Country Cruisers Car Show from 9 a.m. - noon, & awards in the early afternoon.
At 10 a.m., the big Centennial Parade will move from South to North Broad St., with Globe Rotary, John O’Donnell, chairman, in charge. Entry forms are available at the Greater Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce & the Globe Main Street office.
Beginning at noon, the Chamber of Commerce & Gila County Cattle Growers will simultaneously kick off their Block Party on Broad St. The Chamber will have food & fun booths & entertainment, while the Cattle Growers will be located on the lot of the former Pioneer Hotel & Globe Theatre buildings. The Cattle Growers will have displays, Ely, the mechanical bull for riding, & fake cattle heads for the youngsters to try to rope.
Nancy Sheppard, champion trick roper, will have shows at 1:30, 3 & 4:30, while cowboy history stories will be told by Jinx Pyle at 2 p.m., followed by more tales at 3:30 by Eddie Armer. Late in the afternoon the chuck wagon dinner that was being prepared all day, will be ready to serve from 5 - 7 p.m. A campfire will be the site of more stories & fun, while diners are treated to roast beef, cowboy beans, Dutch Oven biscuits, tossed salad & bread pudding for dessert - all prepared by a Dutch Oven cook.
Plans also call for a beer garden at that same site & fiddle music with dinner.
The same day, Besh-ba-Gowah Indian Ruin park & museum will be open with entertainment & demonstrations all day in celebration of Archaeology Month. Admission on Saturday is free & guided tours will be given at 10 & 2 p.m.
