Boyce Thompson Spring Plant Sale

The annual Spring Plant Sale is March 10th - 25th, at Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Wildflowers begin to bloom along the trails in March & guided tours are offered daily at 10 am & 1 pm. March is planting time, & the Spring Plant Sale's a great opportunity to stock up on potted trees, shrubs, cacti & succulents. Plant sale hours are daily from 8 am - 5 pm. Call the staff at 520-689-2723.

Weekends during the Plant Sale offer opportunities to meet volunteers from the University of Arizona Master Gardener programs, & also to speak with Arboretum staff if you have specific questions about gardening, horticulture or plant care. Volunteers & staff with the Pinal Master Gardener Program will be there on opening weekend, March 10th - 11th.

On March 17th, there's a special "Arizona 101" class for those who wish to learn more about life & landscaping in the Sonoran Desert. There is a $17.50 fee to enroll in the "Arizona 101" class, & complete details on that are below.

LANDSCAPING, IRRIGATION, HERBAL CUISINE...

* March 17, Saturday from 10 am - 2 p.m. Learn how to choose ideal plants for a beautiful desert landscape, how to install your own water-saving irrigation yourself...even how to calmly deal with the occasional scorpion, black widow or western diamondback rattlesnake you might encounter while turning over rocks in your yard. "Arizona 101" is a half-day of classes for people who want to better understand life in our Sonoran desert. Cost is $17.50, or $10 to Arboretum annual members. Registration is limited; pre-register with a phone call to 520-689-2723.

* March 24th, from 11 am - 1 pm. "Cooking with the Herb Lady." Follow your nose to the smell of mesquite smoke & see whats on the grille out front of the Smith Building. Scottsdale author Catherine "The Herb Lady" Crowley will prepare (and share!) grilled delicacies. What will she cook up March 24? Find out, sample, pose your own culinary queries & meet the author of "Edible Landscaping" on the final Saturday of the plant sale.

Boyce Thompson Arboretum is located at Hwy 60, MP #223 near the historic copper mining town of Superior; 45 miles due West of Globe-Miami. Daily hours in March are 8 am - 5 pm. The annual Spring Plant Sale is a fundraising event that supports programs of Boyce Thompson Arboretum; therefore, admission fees are requested even if the purpose of the visit is simply to buy plants during this event.
