Food Check-Out Week
The Arizona Farm Bureau will be celebrating Food Check-Out Week from Feb. 4th - Feb. 10th, throughout the state in order to mark the achievement of the worlds safest, most affordable food supply.
According to the Arizona Farm Bureau Federation (AZFB), the average American will have earned enough disposable income by early February to pay for their food for the entire year. The latest statistics, compiled by the Agriculture Department’s Economic Research Service, indicate Americans currently spend just under 10 percent of their disposable income on food.
“Not only is America’s food supply the world’s safest, but it’s also the most affordable,” said Ann Palmer, AZFB Women’s Leadership Committee chair. “Our nation’s increasing standard of living would certainly be reduced without the safe, abundant & affordable domestic food supply produced by America’s farmers & ranchers. Food Check-Out Week tracks the amount of income needed by Americans to purchase food on an annual basis.”
The Arizona Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee will furnish Food Check-Out Week placemats to restaurants across the state. The placemats list agricultural facts & features educational activities designed to inform consumers about the food supply.
When comparing taxes to Food Check-Out Week, it only takes 37 days for the average American to earn enough disposable income to pay for their families food supply for the entire year, as opposed to 116 days to pay all their taxes. The high-quality, affordable food we enjoy is a product of the United States’ successful food production & distribution systems.
