The Az Dept of Commerce, Fort Huachuca, the cities of Sierra Vista & Huachuca, the counties of Santa Cruz & Cochise as well as various stakeholders are taking a proactive approach to land use issues surrounding the Fort. The Public Informational Meeting on the Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) will be held at the Sierra Vista Public Library on Thurs., March 1st, from 4 pm - 7 pm with a detailed presentation to occur at 5:30 pm. This meeting's an opportunity for citizens to comment on the draft policy recommendations, ask questions, & express their view points.
The meeting will focus on draft noise & safety compatibility criteria. Arizona Dept of Commerce Director Jan Lesher says it's an agency priority to plan for the future of the Fort & the appropriate development of the surrounding community is an imperative & critical force behind these meetings. "Commerce's Community Planning Office provide(s) the critical planning expertise needed to address these issues. The Dept of Commerce engages local governments, citizens, land owners, businesses & land development groups in finding ways to best use the land without endangering critical military missions or the surrounding communities."
