Pinal County Primitive Roads Meeting Schedule

The Pinal Co. Public Works Department is pleased to announce their neighborhood meeting schedule to receive & address public comment regarding Primitive Roads.

In July of 1994 the State Legislature passed a law that gives the governing body of a city or county the authority to designate public roads within its jurisdiction as "primitive roads." The state law provides that a primitive road is a public road that is not a state or county highway; was opened to the public before June 13th, 1975; &, was not constructed to a county road standard. To be a designated Primitive Road, the public roadway must contain the following characteristics:

* Was not built to county road standards;
* Has inconsistent or irregular widths;
* Has a surface which can vary from native material, rock, gravel or substandard pavement;
* Has poor or non-existent drainage.
* Has little or no roadway signing.

The purpose of the Primitive Roads designation is to improve safety on the roadway through signage. This alerts the traveling public to use the roads at their own risk & warns that the roadway is not regularly maintained.

The Public Works Department would like to stress that the primitive roads will continue to be maintained in basically the same condition & at the same frequency as they are currently receiving.

The meeting schedule is as follows:

* Mon., Jan. 22nd: 6 pm at the Pinal Co. Emergency Operations Center; 31 North Pinal St.-Building "F" in Florence.
* Tues., Jan. 23rd: 6 pm at the Mammoth Justice Courtroom; 116 S. Catalina in Mammoth.
* Thurs., Jan. 25th: 6 pm at the Apache Junction Justice Courtroom; 575 North Idaho Road in Apache Junction.
