DNC Does Denver
The Democratic National Committee announced that Denver, Colorado will host the 2008 Democratic National Convention on Mon., Aug. 25th, to Thurs., Aug. 28th. The decision to move the convention to a western state comes as rising population & Democratic success have made the western states more important on the national political stage.
A convention in the western states has long been supported by Gov. Janet Napolitano, who also currently serves as the Chair of the National Governor’s Association.
In a statement made earlier, Democratic Party Chairman David Waid said, “This choice by the Democratic National Committee is an indication of the larger trend of the Party moving west. The political victories in this region have been a reflection of the voters’ disenchantment with Republican partisan ideology & support for the mainstream American values of the Democratic Party. As the western states continue to develop stronger Democratic leaders & voters, we will undoubtedly see more national events such as the Democratic Convention moved west. Like the western pioneers of previous centuries, Democrats can see the future of their party in the promise of the western states.”
