GCC Offers Basic Wildland Firefighting Course
Gila Community College is offering FSC150 Basic Wildland Firefighting during the spring 2007 semester. Students who successfully complete the course will earn 3 credits. The course is offered on Saturdays from Jan. 15th, 2007 through Feb. 24th, 2007. This course teaches basic wildland firefighting. Instruction includes locating & reporting the fire, incident operations & management, suppression equipment, fire behavior, size-up, methods of suppression, & safety. Individuals wishing to start careers in wildland firefighting are encouraged to enroll in this course. The instructor is Robert Shirkey of the U. S. Dept. of Forestry.
