The Verde River Greenway State Natural Area is a 600-acre, 6-mile long riparian area adjacent to Dead Horse Ranch State Park. It contains 1 of Arizona's last free flowing rivers. Wildlife thrives among the huge stands of cottonwoods & along the Verde River.
Arizona's State Trails System is invaluable, offering a diversity of quality non-motorized trails that inspire people to experience the State's magnificent outdoor environment & cultural history.
The system was established to recognize & promote non-motorized trails that are of special interest or significance to both Arizona's residents & visitors. Trails offer a wide variety of recreation opportunities. The official State Trails system currently contains more than 600 trails. Arizona State Parks & Arizona State Committee on Trails (ASCOT) monitor these trails conditions & promote the trails in various ways.
The trails are compiled into the Az. State Trails Guides, comprehensive trails guides to the State Trails System. The Az. State Trails Guides are sold around the state in the gift shops at the State Parks & at the State Parks main office in Phoenix at 1300 W. Washington. There are 4 trails guide books with a different region of Arizona in each one. They are sold for $10 each or the set for $30.
The Az. State Parks Board was established in 1957 to acquire & manage areas. Over the years, legislation has added other programs to Az. State Parks & as a result, the volunteer Board is responsible for a much broader spectrum of duties. These duties are related to historic preservation, archaeology, outdoor recreation, resource conservation/education & grant administration.
