ADOT Thanksgiving Roadwork News
ADOT & its contractors will not have any construction closures in place on state highways over the Thanksgiving weekend.
ADOT Director Victor Mendez is urging motorists to concentrate on safe driving & to allow for extra travel time over the holiday weekend in anticipation of heavier-than-normal traffic. “With increased traffic, especially leading up to Thanksgiving & during return trips, a lot of the responsibility for safety falls to drivers," Mendez said. "We can’t say it enough. Take your time, don’t speed, refuse to drink & drive, make sure everyone buckles up & be alert for any changing weather conditions.”
Although ADOT is stopping construction on its highway projects across the state over the long weekend to minimize the impact on holiday travel, Mendez stressed safety, especially near existing work zones.
In an effort to reduce the number of crashes during the holiday, ADOT, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) & Governor’s Office of Highway Safety all urge drivers to avoid distractions, take some extra time for travel & drive sober. Law enforcement officers will be out in force during the holiday weekend in an effort to stop impaired drivers.
