Picacho Peak Hill Climb

On Nov. 5th, Picacho Peak State Park hosts the "Picacho Peak Hill Climb" an annual event which is sure to please even the most frustrated modern driver. The event starts at 8 a.m. Come watch the fun at this pre-1935 Antique Hill Climb sponsored by the Tucson Model A Ford Club.

The event is free but regular park fees do apply. Regular park fees are $6 per vehicle for up to 4 adults, each additional adult is charged $2 each. A $2 per person entrance fee applies to pedestrians & bicyclists. The park is located off I-10, on exit 219 -- just 60 miles south of Phoenix, & 40 miles north of Tucson. For more info call (520) 466-3183.

When traveling along I-10 in southern Arizona, visitors can't miss the prominent peak at Picacho Peak State Park. There are 5 hiking trails at the park that vary in difficulty. In the spring, depending on the rainfall, there is an abundance of wildflowers including Mexican Gold poppies that cover the mountain. As the spring gets warmer, the Mexican Gold poppies are replaced with yellow brittlebush & yellow creosote. Later the mountainsides will turn from mostly yellow to purple as the purple lupine starts to overshadow the Mexican Gold poppies & then the cactus flowers will bloom.

Picacho Peak State Park has 85 electric & non-electric campsites. Campsites are available on a 1st come-1st served basis, picnic areas, ramadas, grills, dump station, restroom, showers, trails, historical markers & playground. Group areas for day & overnight use are available by reservation.

The Tucson Model A Club is Tucson's chapter of the Model A Ford Club of America, Inc. (MAFCA), dedicated to the restoration & preservation of the Model A Ford automobile as manufactured from 1928 through 1931. The purpose of this club is to exchange ideas, information, restoration, preservation of the Model A Ford automobiles manufactured from 1928 through 1931.
