ADOT To Host I-17 Meetings In North Valley
Local residents who want to find out more about major improvements being made to Interstate 17 in the north Valley can get up-to-date information during a series of open house meetings hosted by the Arizona Department of Transportation this month.
The “I-17 Road Shows” will provide info about the widening of the freeway between the Loop 101 & Carefree Highway, as well as projects that will add or reconstruct traffic interchanges.
Meeting locations & times are as follows:
Tues., Sept. 19th, 6 - 8:30 p.m.
Sandra Day O’Connor High School
25250 N. 35th Avenue, Glendale
Thurs., Sept. 21st, 6 - 8:30 p.m.
Anthem Community Center
41130 N. Freedom Way, Anthem
Thurs., Sept. 28th, 6 - 8:30 p.m.

A presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. during each of the meetings, followed by an open house where those attending can meet with ADOT staff to discuss the upcoming project work. The same info will be presented at each of the meetings.
The major widening of I-17 will include the addition of 2 lanes, including HOV (carpool) lanes, in each direction between the Loop 101 & Carefree Highway. Construction of the project is expected to begin near the end of 2007.
Meanwhile, work on 2 new interchanges at Jomax Rd & Dixileta Drive is scheduled to begin in 2007. Another project due to start next year is the reconstruction of the I-17/Carefree Highway interchange. Construction of an interchange to connect the Loop 303 to I-17, approx., 2 miles south of Carefree Highway, is expected to begin in early 2008.
ADOT anticipates substantial completion of the I-17 projects between Loop 101 & Carefree Highway near the end of 2009.
The improvements are part of the voter approved 20-year Regional Transportation Plan launched earlier this year.
ADOT will conduct additional public meetings as work on I-17 progresses. For more info about the Sept. meetings, visit Interstate17North.com or call (602) 283-1195.
