Pinal Co Elections Dept Needs Poll Workers
The Pinal Co. Elections Dept. is in need of poll workers for the upcoming Primary & General Elections this year.
Poll workers can earn up to $200 to work the day of the election. There is a training class involved in which attendees are paid $50 plus mileage as compensation for their time.
High School students 16 to 17 years of age or older can also work the polls for this election provided they get both school & parental permission. It would be a great learning tool for the students to understand how the electoral process works.
"We are hoping people will show their civic pride by helping their friends, neighbors & fellow Pinal Co. residents to exercise their right to vote," said Elections Director Gilbert Hoyos. "Make no mistake about it-it is long work, but rewarding at the same time. We have a lot of people who do it once, come back & work another election."
The need this time around, said Hoyos, is that Pinal County's growth has meant that there are an increase in polling locations. "We simply need more people to work the polls," stressed Hoyos. "We have the latest polling equipment & it should be fun for the poll workers to learn the new technology in voting."
The Primary election will be held on Tuesday, September 12th, 2006. The General Election will be held on Tuesday, November 7th, 2006.
