Miami Fiesta de Libertad
The Fiesta is scheduled for Sept. 16th, at the Miami Memorial Park with non-stop festivities from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The opening ceremony will start at 10 a.m. The big salsa contest will be held at 1 p.m. Those wishing to participate can pick up registration forms & the required standardized jars at the Miami Town Hall or the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce through Thurs., Sept. 14th. Contestants must be pre-registered & turn in their entries by 12:30 p.m.
At 4 p.m. is the world famous, Las Corridas de Chihuahuas, the chihuahua races, begin. Check-in will be at 3:30 p.m. & 2 dogs at a time will race against each other in elimination heats. The entry fee is $5 per chihuahua for those preregistered, $10 the day of the race.
Members of the Miami Senior Center on Live Oak St. & Keystone Ave. will serve their world famous menudo from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pinata breaks & other activities for children are scheduled throughout the day.
There will be a lot of art for sale by local artists & other goods as part of the Mexican Mercado on Sullivan St.
The Globe-Miami Reunion Committee will have their beer garden again under the tents & a ramada starting at 10 a.m. A special feature will be the "Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death" Miami Margaritas, created especially for the event.
