Governor's Office Awards $6.3 Million in Grants
The Governor's Office for Children, Youth & Families, Division for Substance Abuse Policy has awarded grants totaling more than $6,300,000 over 5 years to local community coalitions across Arizona, with the purpose of establishing infrastructure to address underage drinking & youth illicit drug use.
Grant recipients will organize broad-based community coalitions that will analyze the scope of substance abuse problems in their areas. Additionally, coalitions will research current resources targeting these problems. With this critical information, communities will develop strategies to reduce & prevent the impact of substance abuse in their communities.
The following programs were awarded grants:
* Youth Count - Yavapai County
* Southeastern Behavioral Health Services - Cochise, Graham, & Santa Cruz Counties
*Compass Health Care Corp. - Pima County
*Chicanos Por La Causa - Maricopa County
*Terros - Maricopa County
*Arizona Youth Partnership - Gila County
*Pinal Hispanic Council - Pinal County
*Williams Alliance Against Drug Abuse - Coconino County
*Citizens Against Substance Abuse - Coconino County
*Gila River Health Care Corp. - Gila River Indian Community
Funding for the Strategic Prevention Framework in Az. is established through the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services, Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Substance Abuse Prevention. Funds are provided directly to state, territories & the District of Columbia to implement comprehensive statewide substance abuse prevention plans.
