Former Pitcher Gene Thompson Has Died

Gene "Junior" Thompson, who pitched in the major leagues for 6 years & was a member of the Cincinnati Reds' 1940 championship team, has died. He was 89. Thompson died Thursday at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn. The cause of death was not released. Thompson had lived in Arizona since 1971. His wife of 67 years, Dorothy, died last December. He was still scouting players until his death.
