Emergency Declared For Pima & Pinal Counties

Governor Janet Napolitano has signed a Declaration of Emergency for Pima & Pinal Counties. This declaration makes available $200,000 from the state’s General Fund to be used by Arizona Department of Emergency Management, as well as the State of Arizona Emergency Response & Recovery Plan be used to direct & control available assets. The Declaration also authorizes the Adjutant General to mobilize & call to activate all or part of the Arizona National Guard to assist in protecting residents & property.

A series of heavy monsoon thunderstorms between July 25th, 2006 & Aug. 4th, 2006 brought hail, damaging winds & flash floods to southeastern Arizona. In the course of these storms, several homes were filled with water & mud, and residents had to evacuate into shelters. Additionally, roads & bridges were overtopped by the floodwaters, many of which sustained extensive damage.
