Tonto NF Lifts Remaining Fire Restrictions
All fire restrictions affecting the Tonto National Forest have now been lifted, effective Thursday, July 20th.
The fire restrictions, covering the entire forest, are no longer needed because fire danger has been reduced by increased moisture & humidity from the annual monsoon season. These same wetter conditions prompted officials to reopen closed areas. The closure orders limiting public access to the Mogollon rim & the Pinal Mountains were lifted on July 3rd.
“We want to thank everyone for their patience & understanding as we had to restrict access & activities on the Tonto during this fire season,” said Tonto Forest Supervisor Gene Blankenbaker. “We also appreciate our users supporting & observing the rules; Arizona had a difficult fire season that was made a little easier by the small number of human-caused fires.”
