Snowflake's Annual Pioneer Days Celebration
Starting on Thurs. July 20th & running through Sat. July 22nd, the Silver Creek Little Theater presents “Reserve Two for Murder.” Snowflake High School also presents “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” On Friday & Saturday the 15th Annual Quilt Show is open with the theme "Patches from the Past." On Friday & Saturday, Snowflake's Pioneer Park hums with activity as the Arts & Crafts Festival offers its wares complete with food vendors, live music & other entertainment for both children & adults. Sports get underway on Friday with the Pioneer Day Golf Tournament & the Snowflake Rodeo at 7 pm. The rodeo continues on Saturday at 1:30 pm, preceded by the Fun Run at 6 in the morning & followed by the softball tournament finals later in the afternoon. Some of the other special events include the Thursday Night in the Park, fireworks at the rodeo grounds at 9:15 Friday evening, & on Saturday the Pioneer Days Parade at 9 am & the annual barbecue at 11:30 am. Tour guides dressed in full pioneer attire are ready to show visitors each of the historic downtown homes.
Snowflake held its 1st Pioneer Day Celebration in 1879 to commemorate 2 events: the entrance of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley in Utah on July 24, 1847 & the entrance of William J. Flake & 5 other families into the Silver Creek Valley to settle present day Snowflake on July 21, 1878. Come on out & enjoy Pioneer Days in 2006!
