Kyl Welcomes U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns
U.S. Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) on Thursday, July 6th, will welcome U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns during his 1st official visit to Arizona. Kyl invited Secretary Johanns to come to Arizona to see 1st-hand how our state leads the way in forest health research & application.
In Flagstaff, Kyl & Johanns will promote forest health during an 11 a.m. tour of the Gus Pearson Natural Area -- a Forest Service experiment station in the Coconino National Forest where forest thinning techniques are demonstrated. Forest Service officials & Dr. Wallace Covington of the Ecological Restoration Institute at NAU will also participate in the tour.
Before arriving in Flagstaff, Kyl & Johanns will take an aerial tour of the damage caused by the Brins fire near Sedona.
In Phoenix, Kyl & Johanns will hold a discussion at 2 p.m. at Sky Harbor Airport regarding their visit & report on wildfire preparedness.
11:00 a.m. -- Flagstaff: Senator Kyl & Secretary Johanns will take a walking tour of the Gus Pearson Natural Area - a Forest Service experiment station in the Coconino National Forest where forest thinning techniques are demonstrated. Invited media will have the opportunity to conduct interviews along the tour. Location: Gus Pearson Natural Area, Flagstaff.
