"Underperforming" Albertsons To Close

The announcement came yesterday that by early August, 9 "underperforming" Albertsons grocery stores in the Phoenix area will be closed by their new owner, Cerberus Capital Management LP. After these 9 close, Albertsons LLC will then have 51 stores in Arizona, 22 in New Mexico, & 8 in El Paso, Texas, in their Southwest division. Company officials said that while the 9 stores make up 10% of the company's total of 81 in the region, they accounted for less than 6% of sales last year.

The stores closing are:
* 409 N. Litchfield Road, Goodyear.
* 1919 W. Main St., Mesa.
* 2070 S. Power Road, Mesa.
* 1200 N. Alma School Road, Chandler.
* 7333 West Thomas Road, Ste. 16, Phoenix.
* 717 W. Ray Road, Gilbert.
* 5802 W. Olive Ave., Glendale.
* 99 S. Higley, Higley.

Albertsons LLC officials notified the employees in the effected stores Tuesday morning & that the company will work hard to place them in other Albertsons stores.
