“Sunset on the Santan”
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is throwing another Loop 202 “preview party” along the newest stretch of Valley freeway on Wednesday night (June 7). ADOT is calling it "Sunset on the Santan," & between 6 p.m. & 9 p.m., local residents will have another chance to walk, job, bike & skate on the Loop 202 Santan Freeway before it opens to traffic next week.
It's the 1st time a local freeway party has been held in the evening. Runners are invited to take part in a 5K fun run down the freeway at 8 p.m. The Town of Gilbert will provide a fireworks show. Refreshments & the entertainment are free. Governor Janet Napolitano & other dignitaries are scheduled to take part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7 p.m. If you want to attend, parking is available by using the eastbound Loop 202 entrance ramp at Val Vista Drive, south of Pecos Road, in Gilbert.
Crews are still putting the finishing touches on the final 12 miles of the Santan Freeway between Gilbert Road & Elliot Road. ADOT plans to open the entire section to traffic by Monday (June 12).
