State Transportation Board Meets
The State Transportation Board will hold a special meeting tomorrow at 1 pm at the Arizona Department of Transportation located at 206 S. 17th Avenue in Phoenix.
During the meeting the board will receive information & discuss the input received at 3 public hearings that took place during April & May on the draft 5-year program for Phoenix area & statewide freeway construction projects. The tentative program totals $5.5 billion for projects in fiscal years 2007 through 2011.
Major projects scheduled in the 5-year program include:
* Reconstructing & widening I-17 in each direction between Loop 101 & Carefree Highway;
* Constructing an I-17/Loop 303 traffic interchange along I-17 at the Lone Mountain Road alignment (2 miles south of Carefree Highway);
* Widening I-10 to 3 lanes in each direction between the community of Picacho & the Town of Marana;
* Constructing a new road to transform US 60 into a 4-lane divided highway between Florence Junction & Superior;
* Reconstructing the SR 69/SR 89 traffic interchange in Prescott & widening SR 89 between Prescott & Chino Valley;
* Continuing projects to reconstruct US 93 into a continuous 4-lane divided highway between Wickenburg & the Nevada border.
