Sensational Summer in Flagstaff!
You've heard the term blowing smoke? Thats not happening in Flagstaff! In light of the recent fires near the Flagstaff region, currently located along Highway 89-A into Oak Creek Canyon & Sedona, it is true that the Coconino National Forest is in a state of closure until the summer rains arrive. This is done as an extra protective measure against the risk of forest fires.
Meanwhile, what is a visitor to do in Flagstaff? Answer to that question can be found in the newly released 2006 Summer Calendar of Events!
Covering the months of July & August of 2006, the Summer Calendar of Events highlights some of Flagstaffs most outstanding events & activities. For the duration of June, activities such as wildflower walks, bird watching, historic walking tours in the downtown, & a Jupiter Fest are all activities that one may look forward to enjoying. July brings even more. Native American festivals, 4th of July parades, horse races, art walks, antique shows, Celtic festivals, & beer festivals, just to name a few.
Every weekend in historic downtown Flagstaff, look forward to the Friday night Movies on the Square at Heritage Square for free movie fun for families of all ages. On Saturday, visit Riordan Mansion State Historic Park (www.azstateparks.org) or go star gazing at Lowell Observatory (www.lowell.edu). If you're still hankering for a taste of the great outdoors, visit the Arboretum of Flagstaff (www.thearb.org) where you can walk on the wild side with the Wild Birds of Prey demonstrations. Each Sunday also brings opportunity to connect with the earth at the Farmers Market in the historic downtown, south of Route 66. All of these activities happen each weekend, but for other interesting things open your Summer Calendar of Events & check out the Quick Guide to Daily Tours or daily listings to see what is available. Or contact the Flagstaff Visitor Center at (888) 697-7778 or www.flagstaffarizona.org.
The Summer Calendar of Events can be picked up at local hotels, restaurants, B&Bs, or at the Flagstaff Visitor Center, located at 1 E.
