Five-Year Construction Plan Approved
At it’s meeting in Prescott on June 23rd, the Arizona State Transportation Board approved a 5-year transportation facilities construction plan. The program, which outlines the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) construction projects for fiscal years '07 through '11, represents approximately $5.5 billion of transportation improvements throughout the state.
Major projects in the 5-year program include:
· Reconstructing & widening I-17 in each direction between Loop 101 & Carefree Highway.
· Constructing a traffic interchange for Loop 303 at I-17 and Lone Mountain Road.
· Widening I-10 to 3 lanes in each direction between the community of Picacho & the Town of Marana.
· Reconstructing the SR 69/SR 89 traffic interchange in Prescott & widening SR 89 between Prescott & Chino Valley.
· Continuing the effort toward the goal of transforming US 93 into a continuous 4-lane divided highway between Wickenburg & the Nevada border.
In addition to approving the 5-year transportation facilities construction program, the transportation board awarded 6 construction projects totaling $24.8 million.
Maricopa County:
I-17 Screen Wall Installation - A lightweight screen wall will be installed at 4 bridges along a 4 mile segment of I-17 between 16th Street & Buckeye Road. The $3.9 million project will be done by Meadow Valley Contractors & be completed by the fall.
Roosevelt Irrigation District Main Canal - Bison Contracting will reconstruct the Roosevelt Irrigation District (RID) Main Canal to a new box culvert. This $2 million project will begin in July & will be completed in the fall.
LaPaz County:
I-10 Signage - The proposed work includes replacing & rehabilitating signs along I-10 between Poston Road & Hovatter Road. Abbco Sign Group & Electrical Concepts will begin work on the $1.3 million dollar project in July with an anticipated completion by Spring 2007.
Apache County:
I-40 Rehabilitation - This $11.9 million project includes installation of rubberized asphalt & replacing guardrails and pavement markings. Meadow Valley Contractors will begin work in July on this project located east of the McCarrell Traffic Interchange. This project should be completed by the end of the year.
US 60 Bridge Work - Meadow Valley Contractors will begin work on this $4.8 million project west of Springerville in July. Work includes realigning the existing roadway to construct a new single span bridge. This project will begin in July & will be completed around the end of the year.
