Beaverhead Fire
This fire has burned 1,300 acres; & has been 31% contained & is 15 miles S. of Alpine. An evacuation order is in effect. There's been no significant perimeter spread. Crews continue to build line, burn out, hold dozers lines, & protect structures. A few people were advised to evacuate from the Josh Ranch; one person elected to stay. Some of the estimated acreage burned can be attributed to burnout operations west of the Josh Ranch across several meadows. Today the fire stayed w/in the preliminary containment lines constructed last night even though there is considerable fuel inside the lines that remains unburned & therefore hazardous. Crews continued line construction using Hot Shot crews in the inaccessible portion of the line & using dozers in the flatter terrain. On the east side of Highway 191 the fire is burning in an area that was burned 2 years ago in the Thomas Fire. Meadows on the west side of the highway were burned out to protect the homes located immediately adjacent to the fire. The interior of the fire has islands of unburned fuel which will be burned out tonight & tomorrow. Portions of Hannagan Creek and Thomas Creek drainages were burned. Forest Road 574 is also w/in the burned area.
