"The Basin"

"The Basin," is the city of Flagstaff's newest & finest recreation facility, an innovative, state-of-the-art BMX park. Celebrate the grand opening of this facility on Saturday, May 27th along with X-Games Gold Medalist Allan Cooke, & local Flagstaff pro rider Adam Baker! Events begin at 9 a.m. & continue through the afternoon. Activities at this event include the ribbon cutting, freestyle demonstrations, bike safety education, & entertainment. Entry is FREE.
Award winning designer & builder Wally Hollyday has produced an unmatched, quality facility design dedicated to the technical & aesthetic needs of the experienced BMX rider. Created within a 2.2-acre detention basin that would have otherwise just been a vacant lot, 900 tons of concrete were used to create 3 irregularly shaped bowls, averaging 8 feet deep, primed for tricks & exciting BMX maneuvers. Dirt mounds are graded into the basin as yet another feature for riders to explore. Specific features included in the park are: the side rail, the central rail, the over-vert wall, 2 straight walls, & a wrap-around wall extending above the bowls. One of the most exciting elements to the facility includes a figure-eight basin & a quarter-pipe for riders to negotiate.
The Basin is located on the corner of West & 6th Street (1700 E. 6th Street) in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Flagstaff. Dubbed as the only BMX-exclusive concrete facility of its kind currently built in the state of Arizona, 'The Basin" is also an inviting park facility designed with attractive landscaping, picnic & ramada areas, benches, & fountains.
