Supervisors Approve Financing For Ironwood/Gantzel Road
The Pinal County Board of Supervisors approved a pioneering method for financing to complete the Ironwood/Gantzel Roadway Improvement Project. The amount, not to exceed $66 million, will be paid by the Superstition Valley Transportation Project impact fees & additional impact fees. Pinal County has obtained the financing through the Greater Arizona Development Authority (GADA). GADA will, under its authority given to it by the State of Arizona, issue bonds on the behalf of Pinal County. Following discussion & action on the GADA bond financing, the Supervisors approved pre-construction and construction of segments B1 & C of the Ironwood/Gantzel Road Improvement Project. Segment B1 is widening from Ocotillo Road to Germann Road; Segment C is widening from Bella Vista Road to Combs Road. Public Works Director Greg Stanley stated that the $22,630,000 contract includes new pavement, curb & gutter, irrigation & drainage pipes along with utility relocation. Other ancillary items for the construction include traffic control & public information media advertisements to area residents on construction progress & possible traffic delays. Stanley updated the Supervisors as to the progress made on the road project. He said the phase currently under construction-Combs to Ocotillo is scheduled to be complete in May. The Ocotillo to Germann Road segment should be substantially complete by the end of the year. The Bella Vista Road to Combs Road segment is scheduled to be complete in early November. All drivers who travel down the Ironwood Road are urged to use caution when driving & obey posted speed limits.
