Town of Congress Wants No Annexation
More than 100 Congress residents met to discuss ways to control their future and remain separate from the Town of Wickenburg. It was determined at the last meeting Congress was not capable of incorporating as its own municipality. A certain sales tax base is required to support local government, & Congress doesn't have enough business to do so. However, the residents are able to design a Community Plan that would give them a say in how Congress is developed. That plan is similar to a municipality's General Plan & must conform to Yavapai County's General Plan and be approved & adopted by the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors. The general consensus against annexation is that, the Town of Wickenburg goes out of it's way to not support Congress' businesses & look down upon Congress' citizens.
