Structured English Immersion Training

Gila Community College announces Structured English Immersion (SEI) Training for education professionals in Gila County. The scheduled course is EDU 232 SEI Strategies. Students completing the course will earn 1 college credit & 15 professional development clock hours of SEI training as mandated by the Az. Dept. of Education for recertification. All professional educators holding valid elementary, secondary, principal, superintendent, supervisor, career & technical, and special education certifications must have successfully completed this training in order to meet the requirements for the provisional SEI Endorsement.

The class will be conducted on Saturday, April 1st & April 8th from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The April 1st class is scheduled at the Gila Pueblo Campus with the April 8th session scheduled at the Hayden High School. The training is presented by Tammie Pursely & Monica Carrera, 2 accomplished instructors in the Guided Language Acquisition Design (G.L.A.D.) method of teaching. Their training provides the education student & professional educators with a basic understanding of the Arizona state ELL professional standards, assessment objectives, foundations of SEI, and SEI strategies.

GCC has scheduled the 45 clock hours or 3 credit hours of SEI training for the week of June 5th with a second session scheduled for July 17th. Each week will constitute 45 hours of training. Upon completion of the 45 hours the full endorsement will be posted to the individual teaching certificate for full endorsement (60 hours or 4 credits).
