Florence Schools To Go Four Days A Week?
Officials say they want to get a leg up in attracting qualified teachers to the fast-growing San Tan area. Florence Superintendent Rick Sagar says research shows operating costs are reduced and student achievement improves in schools that are in session four longer days each week. In return, kids get a three-day weekend. Those three-day weekends would also make it easier to attract teachers to the district, which currently has about 5,000 students. Florence schools are on a year-round schedule and would continue to have sports and some other activities on Fridays.
