EMT Refresher & Wildland Firefighting Courses
Gila Community College is offering two short-term courses during the spring 2006 semester. EMT 161 Emergency Medical Technician Refresher is offered from April 4 to April 7 for 2 credits. Designed to enable the Emergency Medical Technician to maintain proficiency and receive the latest information for handling the sick and injured. It may be repeated as many times as the person needs for re-certification. Fulfills Department of Health Services requirements for EMT re-certification every 2 years. The instructor is D. J. Lopez of the Globe Fire Department.
The second course offering is Basic Wildland Firefighting. Students who successfully complete the course will earn 3 credits. The course is offered on Fridays and Saturdays from February 10 to March 4. This course teaches basic wildland firefighting. Instruction includes locating and reporting the fire, incident operations and management, suppression equipment, fire behavior, size-up, methods of suppression, and safety. Individuals wishing to start careers in wildland firefighting are encouraged to enroll in this course. The instructors are Robert Shirkey of the U. S. Department of Forestry and Bob Arthur.
